International Monetary Fund

The IMF is an international organization that helps countries facing financial difficulties, particularly those with Balance of Payments (BoP) problems. The IMF's primary goal is “to promote international monetary cooperation and exchange rate stability, facilitate balanced growth of international trade, and provide resources to help countries in need.” The IMF provides loans to stabilize economies, offers advice on economic policies, and supports global financial stability. When a country struggles with debt or inflation, the IMF offers financial support and policy recommendations to help manage its BoP issues and restore economic balance.
